The Polestar brand has announced plans to produce an upcoming electric SUV in the United States. The production announcement is accompanied by a teaser photo, our first glimpse at the upcoming Polestar 3.
Polestar says the Polestar 3 SUV will be produced at an assembly plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina. The plant is actually a Volvo Cars assembly plant, reminding us all of Polestar’s parent company. This will mark the first Polestar model produced in the U.S., indicating the importance of the U.S. market to the growing brand.
“Polestar 3 will be built in America, for our American customers,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s Chief Executive Officer. “I remember the great response when I first shared Polestar’s vision here in the USA and I am proud that our first SUV will be manufactured in South Carolina. From now on, the USA is no longer an export market but a home market.”
The brand’s expansion into the U.S. goes beyond production. Polestar has confirmed plans to open up 25 retail “spaces” in the U.S. next year.
As for the Polestar 3, it is slated to debut an all-new EV architecture for Volvo and Polestar. This architecture has been designed form the ground up for EV’s and will feature autonomous driving features. Like all newer Volvo and Polestar models, the Polestar 3 will also feature Google’s native Android Automotive OS infotainment system.
Production of the all-new Polestar 3 is expected to commence globally in 2022. Expect further details as it nears market launch.
