Volvo’s new electric performance brand has announced pricing for its first model. The Polestar 1 performance coupe will set buyers back by $155,000 in the U.S. and Europe.
The six-figure price tag yields quite a lot of car for buyers. The Polestar 1 is powered by a hybrid powertrain that generates 600 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque; plenty to help justify the hefty price tag.
Also driving the Polestar 1 price tag is the fact that much of the car is built from expensive carbon fiber. The weight-saving material will undoubtedly aid performance, but it’s also unquestionably adding to the price too.
The Polestar 1 will be joining the ranks of the Acura NSX and BMW i8 roadster in terms of format and price point. It will be interesting to see if the new kid on the block will be able to command the price tag early on and match the performance of segment stalwarts.
Polestar will rollout its first model next year. The brand has already confirmed plans for a Polestar 2 in the form of a midsize sedan, with the third model planned to be a fully-electric SUV model.
