VWvortex reports that the new Volkswagen Atlas SUV will be priced starting at $30,000 with fully-equipped models topping out at around $48,000.

The pricing was announced during a speech by Volkswagen of America CEO Hinrich Woebcken at the Detroit auto show.

Volkswagen maintains that the Atlas was designed with the North American market in mind, providing seating for up to seven passengers, close to 100 cubic feet of cargo space and an optional V6 engine.

Volkswagen’s aggressive pricing for the full-size SUV is a marked change from its longstanding strategy of commanding premium prices in exchange for superior quality and content.

It sounds like it will be priced right, but is this a compelling enough vehicle to get people out of their Explorers, Pilots, Traverses, etc? I doubt it.

It will be an uphill battle for them sure and dieselgate isn't helping.

At any price, the styling of this thing looks inspired by the Saturn Outlook.
