This morning Toyota has released a teaser shot of what it says is the next variant of the Prius lineup. The photograph showcases the taillights of the new product under and otherwise obscure backdrop. Toyota’s only remark about the future product has been, “Toyota is rolling out the next mechanical marvel in the Prius lineup at 9:10 a.m. EDT, Wednesday, March 23.”
While the LED lamps are equally provocative to those found on the normal Prius, the ones in the teaser are a fairly dramatic design departure from the current Prius. We can only speculate as to what variant this car will be, but odds rest that this will be the new Prius plug-in. The plug-in version of Toyota’s icon ended production toward the latter half of 2015 and is due for a replacement to go along with the updated Prius hybrid.
It is expected that the next Prius plug-in will have 30 to 40 miles of electric range, up from 15 miles in the previous version. The future of the Prius C and Prius V are both unknown at this time.
