More information regarding the 2019 Toyota Supra has allegedly surfaced. This time the information suggests the revived nameplate will include a turbocharged V-6 engine and a manual gearbox, among other details.
This time the leaked information is coming from IH8Mud.com, an enthusiast website for the Toyota Land Cruiser. While that doesn’t exactly suggest the highest degree of confidence in their information regarding a Supra, the website allegedly had dinner with a Toyota employee who offered some Supra details.
“Dave” the Toyota source told the website to expect at least 400 horsepower from the new Supra, with the likely power source being a turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine. Dave went on to say that enthusiasts should expect a manual gearbox offering, which runs counter to a recent leak showing only automatic transmissions for the car.
Lastly, Dave confirmed a release time of “early 2019” for the new Supra.
The new Supra is being co-developed with BMW. In addition to sharing its chassis with the upcoming BMW Z4, the Toyota is also expected to share its powertrains with the Z4 as well. Previous reporting has suggested the Z4 will feature BMW’s well-known 3.0-liter inline-six, but the Toyota source insists that will not be the six-cylinder engine option in the Supra.
If this information is credible appears to be anyone’s guess. It’s worth noting that “Dave’s” information has checked out in the past according to the website and its followers, so perhaps his Supra knowledge is legitimate. Only time will tell – or until there’s another leak.
