Tesla is apparently rolling out some updates on its 2021 Model 3 and Model Y. The company’s online configurator is live for both and it is showing additional range and a few new features.
Electrek first spotted the changes, which should the 2021 Model 3 Long Range with a total range of 353 models, up 30 from the 2020 model. Meanwhile, the Standard Range variant has jumped from 250 to 263 miles. Model 3 Performance is seeing a modest increase of 16 miles to 315 miles.
Tesla is also suggesting the 2021 models have faster acceleration times, with the Model 3 Performance hitting 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds.
In addition, the Model 3 is getting new wheel designs for 2021, a metallic steering wheel and the auto-dimming rearview mirror is back on the feature list.
On the Model Y side, there’s similar changes. The Model Y Long Range Dual Motor is now listing a range of 325 miles, up from 316 miles. The Model Y Performance has increased 291 miles to 301 miles, but is not showing the interior changes like the Model 3.
Sources tell Electrek the added range is part of a new “efficiency package” Tesla will rollout on the 2021 models, enabling the company to squeeze even more out of its battery cells. Of course, given Tesla no longer has a PR team, this is all unconfirmed until Tesla says otherwise.
