Subaru has gotten creative when it comes to teasing future models. In the case of the next-generation BRZ sports car, Subaru took to the streets and gave Subaru enthusiasts the first preview of the car at an owner-focused event.
Participants in the 2020 Subiefest World Record Attempt and Charity Drive in Costa Mesa, California were greeted with a specific display that housed a camouflaged version of the 2022 BRZ. Subaru hasn’t shown any official photos of the full car, but some folks in attendance at Subiefest have posted photos online. Photos show the overall appearance of the next BRZ won’t be dramatically different from today’s.
The only official photo from Subaru is the above, which shows off a 10-spoke wheel design and a brake caliper; not exactly a telling angle. There’s also a new air vent on the backside of wheel well that appears to be at least partial functional.
Along with this official image, Subaru has confirmed it will reveal the 2022 BRZ sometime this fall. Specifics around the logistics of the reveal have not been disclosed, but virtual reveals are quite popular in this era of a global pandemic.
While the reveal will confirm most of the specifics, rumors have suggested the 2022 BRZ will be powered by a naturally-aspirated version of Subaru’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder that’s found in the Ascent. This mill would churn out about 220 horsepower to the rear wheels.
