Rivian has confirmed plans to begin selling vehicles in Europe early next year. The confirmation comes after recent comments by the company that it intended to ultimately sell vehicles in Europe and China.

The announcement came via an email to prospective European customers. Rivian’s Customer Engagement Center sent the official email, which was posted on the Rivian Owners Forum. The email’s headline proclaimed, “We plan to expand sales into Europe some time in early 2022!”

Rivian’s email did not specify which models will make it to Europe. Given the market for larger vehicles and pickup trucks is fairly marginal in Europe, it is questionable if the R1T will make it across the pond. The R1S seems like a given until the company has more suitable models for European customers. Chief executive and founder R.J. Scaringe said late last year the company plans to eventually make smaller models tailored to European and Chinese customers.

The EV startup plans to start U.S. sales this month, while sales in Canada will commence in November. Beyond the two North American countries, Rivian has been vague on global expansion plans.
