Mercedes-AMG has made it clear their future is electrified. Mercedes’ performance shop is working on a host of new electrified performance vehicles, including a plug-in hybrid variant of the AMG GT 4 Door Coupe. The hottest (and cleanest?) version of the GT will finally debut on September 1st.

Naturally, Mercedes is teasing this hot new GT ahead of its reveal. The above teaser shows off a GT that looks mostly like all the other variants, which isn’t surprising. The headliner with this car is what is underneath the skin. This new GT will feature AMG’s familiar twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 up front, but it will pair with an electric motor and two-speed transmission at the rear axle. This placement will balance out the weight, while a 6.1-kWh battery pack will supply juice to the electric motor.

Mercedes is saying the combined output of this powertrain will be a hefty 805 horsepower and about 738 pound-feet of torque. That much power will send the electrified GT from zero to 60 mph in “under 3 seconds.”

Needless to say this level of performance will come at a cost. The top-end AMG GT63s is already north of $160,000, so it’s safe to say this electrified version will be even higher.

AMG has not confirmed the official name for this car, but it is rumored to be named the AMG GT73e. The car will join AMG’s new E Performance label along with the upcoming electrified AMG C63 and future AMG variant of the EQS EV sedan.

Expect to hear all of the details on Sept. 1st during the car’s reveal.
