Mercedes-Benz is using this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show to show off its Vision EQS Concept. This stunning sedan offers a realistic preview of the upcoming production EQS, which is cause for some excitement.

As its EQ name implies, the Vision EQS is a battery-electric car. Mercedes says it has a battery pack that is around 100 kWh. With that large of a power bank, the car is good for about 435 miles of range on the European WLTP cycle. That battery will send power to two electric motors; one on each axle, giving the Vision EQS an all-wheel-drive layout.

Both motors generate a combined output of 469 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes says this power is good enough to send the EQS from zero to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds.

Mercedes is also saying the Vision EQS can charge at 350 kW, which would allow the car to charge from zero to 80 percent in about 20 minutes. While impressive, the brand is not offering details on this fast-charging system.

From a design perspective, the Vision EQS is quite stunning. The wheels have been pushed the corners of the car, giving it dramatic proportions that we’re used to seeing from the S Class sedan. The look is enhanced with a clean design and an equally dramatic greenhouse and high belt line.

Of course, the highlight of this exterior is the fake grille, which houses a portion of over 940 LED lights to put on quite a show. The rest of the lights are scattered around the car’s exterior.

It is worth mentioning that the Vision EQS may not just be a pretty show car. Spy shots of the production EQS have shown a sedan with strikingly similar shaping, giving us hope that the Vision EQS isn’t too far off from the real deal.

While the exterior may be close to production, the interior does not look quite as production-ready. The Vision EQS interior actually looks a lot like other recent Mercedes concept interiors, which doesn’t bode well that its a thinly-veiled version of production.

It isn’t entirely clear when the production EQS will hit the market, but our best guess is that the car will be revealed sometime in 2020.
