Mercedes-AMG's 600 HP Wagon Is Coming To The U.S.

We often whine in the U.S. that we’re left out of some of the automotive unicorns that Europe gets – the odd diesel wagons and manual transmissions. Mercedes-AMG is extending a big olive branch for us though, because we’re getting the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon. Yes, wagon.

Let’s just get right to the goods. The E63 S Wagon is packing 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque thanks to AMG’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8. AMG is sending that monstrous power through a nine-speed automatic gearbox that’s sending the power out through a permanent 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive setup.

In case you’re wondering, that powertrain setup will send this grocery-getting wagon to 60 mph in only 3.4 seconds. AMG is electronically limiting the top speed to 180 mph.

Naturally, the other hardware upgrades are just as impressive as the powertrain. AMG has added a new air suspension system to the E63 S, which will allow adaptive tuning (driver selectable modes). An electronic limited-slip rear differential and AMG’s speed-sensitive steering are also in tow. Standard 15-inch brakes are upgradable to carbon ceramic ones if you feel like you’re going to hit that top speed a lot.

Aside from the exciting hardware, the E63 S Wagon also looks really badass with the typical AMG visual updates inside and out.

The E63 S Wagon will go on sale in the U.S. (yes, really) this fall. It’s full reveal will take place in early March at the Geneva Motor Show.

RIP CTS-V wagon...this looks great, though

My biggest complaint with the CTS Wagon was the D pillar styling it was way too massive. I wish they stretched that rear window back more, looking at this Mercedes and seeing how the D pillar is styled is much better IMO.

Love the look of it! Makes me wish Caddy still had the CTS V Wagon to go up against it.
