The save the date has officially been sent out of the 2022 Kia Sportage reveal. The redesigned crossover will bow on June 8th, but Kia is supplying a few teaser shots to wet appetites. While there’s some elements that are expected, the teaser shots have a couple surprises as well.
This new Kia Sportage is largely based on the all-new Hyundai Tucson, so there’s no surprise that a little bit of the Tucson can be seen in the teasers. Specifically, the greenhouse of the new Sportage gives off a bit of a Tucson vibe, but not enough to soil the Sportage’s distinctiveness. The teaser shots are masking most of front and rear clip details, but it appears there’s some influence from other recent Kia models such as the K5 and EV6.
Speaking of EV6, the big surprise from the teaser shots is contained within the interior. The interior teaser shows off a dash design that is borrowing many components from the upcoming EV6 interior. One such component is a massive single pane of glass extending from the gauge cluster to the center of the dash. Assuming it is similar to the EV6’s, expect two separate screens behind the glass; it’s a trait many automakers leverage today. Maybe it’s just the dark teaser, but the Sportage interior actually looks like it may be even more stylized than the EV6 with a dramatic design element in front of the passenger.
Aside from these teasers, there is much known about the new Sportage. Stay tuned on June 8th for all the details on the 2022 Kia Sportage.
