Official: Honda Civic Type-R Will Be Manual Only

After rumors that Honda may offer the hot Civic Type-R with a CVT automatic, the company has confirmed quite the contrary. In speaking with enthusiast website Temple of VTec Honda has confirmed the Civic Type-R will only be offered with a shift-it-yourself gearbox.

Of course, Honda avoided going into great detail on the new Type-R beyond the transmission. What we do know is that it will look very similar to the Type-R prototype that has been running the auto show circuit as of late. We also expect it to be powered by a hotter version of Honda’s 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with around 320 horsepower, but final output has not been finalized just yet.

The production Civic Type-R is expected be revealed on the auto show circuit this year in time to be on the market for the 2018 model year.

Good news nice to see the manual still hanging in there. Worked for the Focus RS and Fiesta ST.
