Honda is joining the Super Bowl ad blitz this year as well we with a star-studded spot. Entitled “Yearbooks” the commercial reminds viewers to follow their dream and ends showcasing the all-important 2017 CR-V as the produce tie-in.
None of the celebrities shown in the ad actually appear in it in video. Instead, old yearbook photos of each celebrity appear and become animated to follow said celebrity’s voiceover. Essentially Honda ties in the thesis of the ad as the CR-V is Honda chasing it’s own dreams as it shows an older CR-V on the screen before morphing to the all-new one.
In terms of Super Bowl spots, this one is a bit low on pizzazz, but the messaging is strong. It is certainly following a theme in recent years of projecting a strong image in a spot versus humor or glamor.
