Report: 2019 Camaro Gaining 7-Speed Manual

For 2019 Chevrolet appears to be adding a new transmission to the Camaro lineup. Documents suggest the Camaro will offer buyers a seven-speed manual in addition to the current six-speed unit already offered.

The folks over at AutoGuide have discovered documents from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) that show the seven-speed option on the 2019 Camaro. Assumably, this would be the same Tremec TR7070 transmission that has been offered on the Corvette lineup for some time now. The documents confirm the 2019 Corvette will also retain the seven-speed unit.

AutoGuide also points out that the document lists only one version of GM’s 6.2-liter V-8 for the 2019 Camaro. Given two different versions exist in the 2018 car–one for SS, one for ZL1–this could be an indicator that the ZL1 is ending production.

It could also just mean that the CARB document is not up to date. These documents, which are filed to certify emissions, can and often do change over time.

Nonetheless, bringing the seven-speed to the Camaro makes a lot of sense and it something that many were surprised had not already happened with the launch of the ZL1.

I believe the Corvette will receive it first, and sadly today we have no muscle cars. They are pony cars.

Well if you want to get technical on the terms sure. I was referring to the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger.

Which muscle car will be the first to get a dual clutch do you think?

A 7 speed manual seems like shifting overkill.

Purely for the feds. The enthusiasts gains nothing but more weight and complexity.

Just not a fan of the TR6070, and quite frankly were the TR6060 factory to slide into a precipice not one tear would be shed. I am very curious as to the OEM utilization of Tremec's dual clutch transmission currently in development.
