We all knew it was coming, but now it is official. Chevrolet has confirmed it will reveal the eight-generation Corvette on July 18th. Along with confirming the reveal date, GM has also dropped official photos of the car, confirming it will be a mid-engine car.
GM’s official statement does not mention the car’s mid-engine layout, but spy photos and the official photos make it obvious with the car’s dramatic proportions. Code named “Zora” after the Corvette’s first chief engineer, Zora Arkus-Duntov, the C8 will be the first-ever mid-engine Corvette.
Arkus-Duntov–at the time–was obsessed with idea of a mid-engine car. Despite his attempts, GM never executed a mid-engine Corvette. Apparently GM has decided it is time to honor Arkus-Duntov’s contribution to Corvette and take the car to the next level in terms of performance.
Expect further details on the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette in July during the car’s reveal. We also won’t be surprised if additional details leak out now that the cat is officially out of the bag.
