Cadillac XT4 set for Hometown Debut Next Month

Cadillac is expected to reveal its all-new 2019 XT4 crossover next month in Cadillac’s hometown, New York City. While the reveal will be part of the New York Auto Show, the actual event is rumored to take place at the Cadillac House under the company’s headquarters.

Confirmation of the XT4’s entry comes by way of an Automotive News report. The report says Cadillac has confirmed the reveal date as March 28th, which is just ahead of the New York Auto Show.

Cadillac is banking on the XT4 to help stop its sliding sales in the U.S., where it currently has a sedan heavy lineup in a market shifting to crossovers. The XT4 will slot under the larger XT5 crossover and is rumored to be built on the same architecture as the Chevrolet Malibu. Unsurprisingly, the XT4 is expected to be produced alongside the Malibu at GM’s Kansas City, Kansas assembly plant.

Once launched, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 will compete with vehicles such as the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Lexus NX.

Anyone else find it sad that Cadillac is based in NYC...?

Not really. It's been debated ad nauseam among enthusiasts. Either you think it's a superficial exercise in branding with no real substance. Or, you see it as an important symbolic move away from the Grosse Pointe Myopians (as Car and Driver's Brock Yates once called the 'big three' execs), who don't really grasp what luxury means beyond Detroit.

I honestly think its much ado about nothing. Cadillacs have gotten a lot better in the past couple of decades, even if they struggle to differentiate the brand in a crowded marketplace. They just need to execute better on the right product for the right market (a sedan-heavy lineup isn't right in the age of the CUV) and a stronger sense of 'why Cadillac' beyond unique-ish styling.

A little better but still don't understand why they have dragged their feet with this for as long as they have.
