Jeep Wrangler JL Power Figures Leaked

Details surrounding the next-generation Jeep Wrangler JL have been steadily leaking out as if Fiat-Chrysler is an old water facet. One would think at least a few details would remain a mystery until its formal reveal later this year, but that's not the case. Now even the power figures have leaked out, which includes a turbo four that's more powerful than the V-6.*

As has been the case with nearly every JL leak, the die-hard enthusiasts over at*JL Wrangler Forums*have uncovered the power stats. As expected, the new Wrangler will be powered by FCA's 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, which offers up 285 horsepower in the new Wrangler.*

The kicker here is the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. According to National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, the 2.0 will offer up a staggering 385 horsepower in the JL. Yes, that means the four-cylinder model will be more powerful than the V-6 - by 100 horsepower.*

Such a high output on the 2.0-liter is a bit surprising. The same engine is already found under the hoods of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, both of which are only rated at 280 horsepower.*

Of course, some details still remain unknown. The NHTSA documents do not disclose torque figures or when the peak power output hits within the rev range. We also still do not know details of the upcoming Wrangler diesel, which will utilize FCA's 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6, but will not arrive until 2019.*

I smell a rat. That has got to be a typo.

That's my bet... that'd be a seriously high-strung motor, and putting it in a Wrangler would be a complete mismatch for what the characteristics of such an engine would have to be.

    • 30-mile limited warranty?
    • forgot to mention that's the HP of the e-motors the 2.0 generates-for?
