Toyota Polishing Its Crown For Tokyo

Toyota is utilizing this month's Tokyo Motor Show as an attempt to spice up one of its oldest nameplates. The Japanese automaker will reveal a concept version of its next-generation Crown flagship sedan, which dates back to 1955.*

Today Toyota revealed the first photos of the Crown Concept, which is based on the company's all-new global modular architecture. The full-size sedan is packing a more modern design than today's Crown, which dates back to 2013 and is sort of boring by today's design standards. The added pizzaz to the design is matched with a chassis that was tuned on the famed*Nurburgring in Germany.*

Perhaps the biggest news with the Crown Concept is what is contained within it. Toyota is packing in its latest technology gear, including the company's new communications module that allows for connectivity features such as remote diagnostics and traffic congestion avoidance.*

Crown will also feature all of Toyota's active safety gear, similar to other high-end Toyota models.

The concept version is likely a thinly-veiled preview of the production Crown, which will go into production next summer in Japan. In the meantime, the Crown Concept will formally bow on Oct. 25th.*

    This design is very Honda-ish.

Well, I guess the hybrid V8 is kind of the V12 of now (or, given the endless torque of electric motors, is the modern-day V12 equivalent the BEV?!) But, tradition dictates it MUST have doilies!

Probably one of the most bizarre elements of Japanese car culture!
