2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Spied Nearly Naked

At this point it feels like we've seen and heard every detail of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. The latest includes spy shots of actual test mules that hardly have any camouflage, giving us our best look yet of the real-deal JL.

Of course these shots were found over at JL Wrangler Forum, which has been at the forefront of every leak and drip of information on the JL since day one. These shots feature test mules with only a thin film of camo covering the body; oddly enough, the important bits are all exposed.

From the shots, many of the design details we've heard about are confirmed. The front grille and windshield design appear to offer a steeper rake for increased aerodynamics. The headlights and taillights feature LEDs, including taillights with a light pattern very similar to the smaller Renegade.

Nonetheless, the average consumer may have a difficult time telling the difference between the current JK Wrangler and the new JL. Jeep has, rightfully, played it safe with this redesign and likely focused more on the technical ability than throwing out some novel new design theme. Such technical enhancements will include a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a diesel engine later on.

While it may feel like we've seen it all with this future product, the official reveal will take place at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year. The 2018 Wrangler JL will go on sale by the end of this year as well.

I'm kind of underwhelmed. Hopefully the interior is a bigger departure from the current model.
