According to a new report from Automotive News the Lincoln brand is seeing significant interest in the upcoming 2017 Continental. Specifically, the report cites brand executives stating that they have over 40,000 people who desire to purchase a new Continental when the revitalized nameplate returns to Lincoln showrooms this fall.
The report does not specify what exactly the “expression” of interest in the car is, however we suspect it is counting those who have signed up for updates on the car through the Lincoln consumer website. Data surrounding the usage of these is not typically released by automakers, so it is unclear if 40,000 is even an impressive number for Lincoln or not. Given Tesla just collected $1,000 down on nearly 200,000 pre-orders for the Model 3, perhaps 40,000 “expressions” is less than impressive.
Regardless, there’s no question the Continental is the most important Lincoln vehicle launch in many years. Not only will the car be critical to the U.S. market, but even more so in the Chinese market. Lincoln is currently attempting to establish itself in the critical Chinese market, where the brand now has 60 dealerships in 50 cities.
The 2017 Lincoln Continental will launch later this fall in the U.S. In an attempt to differentiate itself from the luxury pack, the car is equipped with features such as 30-way power seats, reclining rear seats and a 400 horsepower twin-turbo V-6. Pricing for the Continental has not been announced, which will unquestionably impact some of those 40,000 “expressions” of interest in the car.
