The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has given the Lincoln MKX crossover top honors. The honors include the distinction of being an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ due to the MKX receiving “good” ratings in every crash test scenario.
According to IIHS, the new MKX is an improvement over the previous generation. While the pervious version scored “good” in most tests, it did not in the challenging small-overlap crash test. The new MKX “aced” the small-overlap test. The new one’s automatic braking system also enabled the MKX to achieve a perfect score during testing. It avoided 100-percent of collisions at the test procedures 12 and 25 mph test intervals.
As a whole the midsize luxury crossover segment has high safety ratings from IIHS. The Acura MDX, Acura RDX, Audi Q5 Infiniti QX60, Lexus NX, Lexus RX, Volvo XC60 and Volvo XC90 all have the Top Safety Pick+ rating.
