Ford today announced that it is recalling 271,000 F-150 pickup trucks that were sold in North America to address a problem with the front brakes. The recall includes 225,000 pickups in the United States, 43,682 units in Canada and 402 trucks in Mexico.

In the recall notice, Ford indicated that 2013-2014 model year F-150 pickups have a master cylinder that can potentially leak brake fluid into the booster and cause the front breaks to weaken or fail. F-150 models equipped with the 3.5L twin-turbo V6 will require replacement of the master cylinders as well as the brake boosters if fluid has leaked.

Ford acknowledged that it is aware of nine accidents and one injury that are attributed to the issue.
