Ford is offering up our first official look at the upcoming battery-electric version of the Ford F-150 pickup. The view comes after years of talk about an electric F-150 and amid a host of GMC Hummer EV pickup teasers from rival General Motors.

The shadowy teaser shows off the battery-electric F-150’s massive LED lighting element on the front clip. It’s an interesting element to show off because it highlights a key design difference between it and the rest of the F-150 lineup, of which it will share its design. The redesigned 2021 F-150 has transitioned to a design theme that includes a unique front clip for each trim level, the electric F-150 will continue the theme.

What the teaser doesn’t tell us definitively is whether or not the grille area under the table-shaped LED element is a real grille or just a cover that’s design to look like a grille. Given the Mustang Mach E does not have a traditional grille, we’re betting the F-150 does not either.

The electric F-150 will be the most-powerful F-150 ever produced, according to Ford. Power will come via two electric motors–one on each axle–tied to a lithium ion battery. It’s also likely to be the most expensive version of the F-150 once production begins in mid-2022.
