The all-new Ford Ranger just hit the market within the last months, but that isn’t stopping speculation regarding the next iteration of Ford’s revived midsize pickup. A new image has surfaced in the media that allegedly could be the next Ranger and it looks nothing like today’s truck.
Shown above, the image was discovered by automotive publication Wheels Australia. Immediately one can tell this is a smaller scale pickup that’s wearing a design theme not dissimilar to the recently revealed 2020 Ford Super Duty. This truck also clearly shares nothing in terms of design with the current Ford Ranger.
Aside from what is visible in the image, not a lot is known about this truck. Wheels is making the assumption it is the next Ranger, which seems plausible given the Ranger is already sold in the island country. But it is worth noting that Ford is working on an even smaller global pickup, details of which are still fairly scarce.
Last month Road & Track was able to confirm that Ford is already working on the next-generation Ranger. The rumored timeline for its launch is around 2022, but even that far-off it wouldn’t be surprising if Ford already has full scale clay models of the design. It’s also possible the next Ranger will launch in global markets, such as Australia, before it launches in the U.S.
