Apparently no one can resist the temptation of the booming SUV market, even Ferrari. Although rumors of a Ferrari SUV are nearly the thing of legends in automotive circles, Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne heated up the issue recently.
During the Italian supercar-marker’s quarterly earnings Marchionne was asked about the SUV matter. He stated, “That space [SUVs] is too big and too inviting,” according to Automotive News.
Those are pretty strong words from someone who had previous stated someone would have to “shoot him” before Ferrari produced an SUV. Then again, this would be the first time Marchionne has changed his mind about something.
For now Ferrari has not made the final decision regarding producing and SUV. It is believed if they go that direction it will be more Ferrari than SUV; meaning it will look very sleek, but seat four and have all-wheel-drive.
Marchionne’s full-time role will migrate solely to be Ferrari’s CEO sometime in 2018 once he steps down from being CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
