2018 Genesis G80 Gets Performance Bump With Sport Model

We all knew this was coming, but the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport is now a done-deal. The performance variant of the G80 will be good for 365 horsepower and a few more changes to make the G80 Sport a unique alternative.

At the core of the Sport model is a new 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 that churns out that 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. In total, this engine should prove to be a nice go-between from the base 3.8-liter V-6 and beefy 5.0-liter 420 horsepower V-8 option.

Genesis has also added adjustable dampers and ventilated brakes over the base car. They’re also claiming the eight-speed automatic transmission has a more aggressive shift pattern to pair with the increased torque. Like the rest of the G80 lineup, rear-wheel-drive is standard and all-wheel-drive is available.

The G80 Sport doesn’t just feature new hardware under the hood, it also has a unique look inside and out. Opting for the Sport trim gets you perks such as thicker side sills, a rear diffuser and more aggressive front clip. New wheels round out the exterior look.

Inside the Sport is also getting added touches such as real aluminum trim, contrast stitching and aluminum pedals.

Pricing for the 2018 G80 Sport has not been announced, but it is expected to start in the mid-$40,000 range.
