The next-generation BMW X7 hasn’t even been released yet, but rumors of additions to it are already happening. A new report suggests BMW management is putting serious consideration behind the idea of producing a high-performance M variant.
BMW Blog reports BMW is expected to arrive at a decision regarding the idea of an X7 M in the coming weeks. This isn’t the first time the company has mulled the idea; back in 2016 similar rumors surfaced regarding an M-badged variant then rumored X7.
The idea of an X7 M isn’t that far-fetched. Given the global SUV craze, more and more luxury brands are rolling out performance variants of their SUV offerings. In fact, an X7 M would already have a direct competitor in the form of the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63.
Assuming BMW does give the X7 M a green light, it likely would not arrive to market until about 2020. It’s also anyone’s guess as to which powertrain would slot under the hood, but one could easily expect 600+ horsepower. Some form of electrification would also seem plausible as the M-Brand looks to pivot to electrification.
