Volkswagen has released a preview of their upcoming SUV concept, which is slated to be revealed at next week’s Beijing auto show. As is always the case with automaker teasers, the details are still fairly vague however the boys in Wolfsburg have said enough for everyone to speculate that this SUV is likely a preview of the next-generation Touareg.
The primary take-away from the teaser shots is that the concept has a lot of LED lighting. No surprise there that VW is keeping up the industry trend, but also noticeable is that the design theme does not appear to be a radical shift from the brand’s current look. VW simply calls the look “sporty and elegant.”
VW has also disclosed that this concept is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain. In theory it has 376 horsepower and a staggering 516 pound-feet of torque. The electric add-on allows for 31 miles of electric-only range, while also achieving about 78 mpg. Details of how those numbers are achieved have yet to be released.
Generally speaking, it’s quite likely we’re getting a glimpse of the new Touareg. According to VW product plans, the next Touareg is due out sometime in 2017.
