Volkswagen of America has announced that it will not be offering the Jetta Hybrid as part of its U.S. lineup for 2017.
The company indicated that the hybrid model made up less than 1 percent of total Jetta sales.
Limited to the top of the line SEL Premium trim package, the hybrid was offered at a sticker price of $31,940, compared to the model’s base price of $18,500.
The decision to cancel the Jetta Hybrid coincides with an overall decline in industry demand for electrified vehicles. With lower gas prices and industry-wide improvements in fuel economy, car buyers have continued to shift to crossovers and SUVs.
