Right now the Volkswagen Arteon tops out with a four-cylinder engine. Although not much of a unusual occurrence in today’s fuel economy-driven industry, apparently Volkswagen is planning to buck that trend. A new report suggests the company is working on a beefy V-6 model to top the Areton range.
More specifically, the company told Car Throttle that it is going to slot in a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 into an Arteon R model. This specific V-6 is not in any VW product just yet, but is under development specifically for the Teramont SUV in China. It does not sound like the Arteon R has the full green-light just yet, but it does sound like it’s highly probable.
Word is the Arteon R would pack around 404 horsepower, giving it a massive jump from the Arteon TSI’s 276 horsepower from its four-pot. Naturally, with that much power, the car would also offer all-wheel-drive.
