Despite suggestions made by former Lamborghini chief executive Stephan Winkelmann that the luxury sports car company would need to consider turbo-charging its lineup, current CEO Stefano Domenicali says that its naturally aspirated V12 engine will be sticking around for the foreseeable future.
Speaking at the recent launch of the Aventador S in Spain, Domenicali indicated that Lamborghini needs to preserve its unique position within the Volkswagen group of brands and that “a naturally aspirated V12 engine is part of that difference.”
Referring specifically to the Aventador, Domenicali says that the existing model has at least another five years for its production run and the platform for its next-generation successor is being designed around a V12 engine.
Lamborghini’s venerable 12 count was first introduced in 1963.
