Toyota Motor Corp. has announced that it will issue two separate recalls affecting as many as 3.4 million cars to fix issues with fuel tanks and curtain air-bag inflators.
The fuel tank recall will involve 2.87 million vehicles sold worldwide and include Corolla and Prius models produced between April 2006 and August 2015. Toyota indicated via e-mail that emissions-control canisters may crack in these models, leading to leaks when the vehicle is operating on a full tank of gas.
The recall to address curtain air-bag inflators supplied by Autoliv Inc. affects 1.43 million units of the Prius and Lexus CT built between October 2008 and April 2012. The inflators have been known to crack and partially inflate in parked vehicles.
Toyota reports that is not aware of any accidents, injuries or deaths connected to the fuel tanks and air bags involved in the recalls.
