Though originally planned to launch in the fall of this year, Toyota has now delayed the Plug-in Prius Prime in Japan until winter.

The company gave no reason for the delay and it will most likely lead to a delay of the launch in both North America and Europe.

Though sales of the fourth generation Prius have struggled in North America due to low gas prices, sales in Japan have been strong.

The Prime contains a 8.8 kWh lithium-ion battery that also allows the vehicle to travel a claimed 22 miles on pure-electric and capable of around 120 MPGe.
