Lexus has confirmed plans to produce the UX Concept as the brand’s compact crossover. That news is not particularly shocking given the popularity of compact crossovers globally, but still a solid confirmation is always nice from OEMs. The confirmation came from Lexus International vice president Yoshihiro Sawa, speaking to Motoring at the Geneva Motor Show.
“We are doing [UX],” Sawa told Motoring. “Please expect UX, it’s not so far away.”
Clearly the executive did not menace his words in stating the UX is coming to market. He went on to explain that Lexus feels this product is critical to success with younger buyers, which is probably an accurate statement.
It isn’t entirely clear if the UX will keep its name and outlandish exterior design in production form. It also isn’t known when the UX will begin production, but it sounds like it isn’t too far off. Once on the market, expect it to run with the likes of the Audi Q3 and BMW X3.
Lexus revealed the UX Concept at the Paris Motor Show last year.
