For 2020 the Lexus GX 460 is getting a mild makeover. The large SUV is sporting a revised front clip design and several new features to help boost slumping sales figures.
To the untrained eye it may be difficult to spot the changes with this refresh. Lexus has swapped out its iconic spindle grille design with a new one; it too is very large. The new grille is flanked by all-new triple-beam LED headlights that give the GX a more distinctive look than today’s version.
Lexus says it is also offering an optional Sport Design appearance package on the 2020 GX 460. Lexus has not revealed a photo of this package yet.
Changes to the 2020 GX 460 are beyond skin deep. Underneath the freshened appearance is a host of new off-road gear. Buyers will be able to select a new off-road package that includes a transmission cooler, fuel tank protector, crawl control and a monitoring system that can display camera views of all of the vehicle’s surroundings.
Keeping passengers safe while on-road is Lexus’ Safety System+, which is standard on the 2020 GX 460. This suite includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision assist, auto high-beams and lane departure warning.
Lexus hasn’t announced pricing for the 2020 model, but the 2019 version starts at $52,505; a starting point that shouldn’t change too much with this freshened GX. Year-to-date sales of the GX 460 are down about five percent, so Lexus is likely hoping to reverse the trend when the 2020 GX 460 goes on sale this fall.
