Tesla Motors has confirmed that it has hired Chris Lattner as vice president of Autopilot software.
Lattner served as a high-profile software engineer at Apple for more than ten years, most recently taking on the role of senior director in the high-tech firm’s developer tools department. He is best known for developing Swift, an open-source programming language used in the development of applications in the iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS environments.
On Tuesday, Lattner informed Apple developers through an online message that he was leaving the company “to pursue an opportunity in another space.”
Tesla has not indicated when Lattner is expected to start work at the company.
