Harman Introduces Wireless Integration for Apple CarPlay

Harman International Industries has announced that it has developed a solution for wirelessly connecting Apple CarPlay with embedded infotainment systems in vehicles.

While CarPlay integration has traditionally made use of USB ports that required iPhones to be tethered, the Harman integration performs connections and data transfers using Bluetooth and WiFi. Claimed to be an industry first, the system provides support for CarPlay functions for navigation, making calls and playing music through either the car’s display or by using voice recognition.

Harman indicated that the solution will initially be available as part of an end-to-end infotainment system for a “luxury German automaker” but will be working with other OEMs to roll out the technology.
