One of Subaru’s most important new products is set to debut in a couple weeks at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In an effort to build interest, Subaru has thrown out a small teaser of its upcoming 2019 Ascent SUV.
Previewed by the Viziv-7 Concept at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, the Ascent will be the brand’s large SUV entry. If the Viziv-7 was a barometer for the Ascent’s size, we can expect a near 200 inches in length, putting it at the top-end of the crossover SUV size scale. Think Ford Explorer and Chevrolet Traverse in terms of similarly-sized competitors.
Based on Subaru’s new global modular platform, the Ascent will be produced at the company’s Indiana assembly plant.
Further details on the Ascent have yet to be released. Rumors suggest a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine will be the primary source of power for this product. And given it is a Subaru, all-wheel-drive is a given here. Power output and transmission selection are still big questions at this stage.
The only thing confirmed at this point is what is visable from the teased image (above). The lift gate sheet metal does appear to follow the Viziv-7 Concept, but the black rear bumper is a slight deviation.
Expect all of the details on the 2019 Ascent to appear in a couple weeks out of LA.
