Nissan Previews Upcoming Electric SUV Concept Again

Nissan has released yet another teaser of an upcoming concept it plans to reveal at the Tokyo Motor Show. This time, the teaser video provides a much clearer picture of the electric SUV.

The video shows a time-lapse view of the Nissan design studio carving out the new concept with robots. The finished product of the robots’ knife work is, well, a rather strange shaped SUV. The front clip, too, is very foreign in comparison to other recent Nissan products.

There are some family traits passed from other Nissan products to this SUV though. The C-pillar has an uncanny similarity to the Murano and new Leaf. The Leaf homage may be intentional, as there have been rumors this concept will effectively be an SUV variant of the Leaf electric car. Nissan has previously expressed a desire to expand the Leaf lineup with more variants.

Aside from the fact this SUV will be pure electric and feature autonomous driving features – both prerequisites for today’s concept car, little is really known about this one.

Nonetheless, the gaps with this concept will be filled in later this week at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Agreed! A design ‘feature’ that’s overused and needs to be retired.
