The Renault-Nissan Alliance and Microsoft Corp announced today that they are partnering to develop connected driving solutions.

Under the terms of the multi-year, global agreement, the companies will leverage Microsoft’s Azure cloud infrastructure to improve customer experiences in the areas of navigation, maintenance, remote monitoring, mobility and over-the-air updates.

As part of the deal, Microsoft will also be tapped to assist the two automakers in the development of user interfaces for their brands.

Vehicles incorporating features developed through the partnership are expected to be available by 2018.
