Mercedes-Benz Channels Easy Rider for AMG 50th Anniversary Super Bowl Ad

Mercedes-Benz is tapping in to the popularity of seminal 60’s film Easy Rider to mark the 50th Anniversary of its AMG performance sub-brand with a spot that will be aired during the Super Bowl.

Directed by filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen, the “Easy Driver” ad features a group of bikers paying tribute to hero Peter Fonda, only to encounter the actor as he speeds off in his Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster.

Set to a background track of Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild,” Mercedes says the ad “celebrates the 50th anniversary of AMG and salutes the spirit of freedom, independence and sheer love of the open road that is the hallmark of the AMG brand.”

The commercial will be televised during the fourth quarter of the game on Sunday, February 5.

Apparently the era of closely-guarded Super Bowl spots has officially ended for many manufacturers.

This commercial is actually pretty good.
