Mercedes has been in the process of revitalizing its entire front-wheel-drive lineup. The process has included a robust lineup of AMG versions, including this all-new 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLA 45.

The formula for this GLA is fairly predictable, which isn’t a bad thing. Based on the all-new GLA, the exterior is adding unique-to-AMG bits, such as the iconic Panamericana grille and more aggressive fascias, which simply foreshadows what’s under the hood of this hot hatch.

Like the CLA 45 and A 45, the 2021 GLA 45 is powered by a beefed up version of Mercedes turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four. This version hammers out 382 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque that is sent to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Power then goes to all four corners thanks to an AMG tuned 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system.

AMG says the powertrain setup is good for sending the GLA 45 from zero to 60 mph in about 4.3 seconds. While America’s fun will stop at the GLA 45, other global markets will get an even hotter GLA 45S, which will bring the power output to 415 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

Both AMG models feature a McPherson strut design at the front, aluminum wishbones, 4-link rear suspension, three transverse control arms and one trailing arm holding it up. The standard brake setup includes 4-piston front and 1-piston rear calipers, finished in grey and displaying the ‘AMG’ logo, as well as ventilated and perforated discs.

The GLA 45 will be joining the base GLA Class and the 302 horsepower GLA 35 at the end of this year. Its full reveal is slated for next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
