Jaguar Prices E-Pace SUV Before Revealing It

This is perhaps a first in automotive, but Jaguar has announced the price of its next SUV before actually announcing said SUV. The luxury brand has confirmed its upcoming E-Pace SUV will have a starting price of $39,595, including destination, when it goes on sale in 2018.

Although Jaguar has released an official teaser of the new SUV, the company isn’t actually revealing the entire vehicle until July 13th. Why the company felt the need to release the price first is a bit of a head-scratcher.

While we have to wait a few more weeks for details, we do know from the teaser that the E-Pace is sporting a lot of design cues from the F-Type; perhaps even more than the larger F-Pace SUV.

The E-Pace will slot below the larger F-Pace in the Jaguar portfolio. This means it will compete with the likes of the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and upcoming Cadillac XT4. This is largely considered one of the fastest-growing luxury segments going forward, so it is certainly an important one for Jaguar to enter.

The E-Pace will offer all-wheel-drive standard, and a host of four-cylinder engines are highly likely on this vehicle. Aside from those nuggets of information, not a lot of details are known yet.

Of course, this isn’t the only new SUV Jaguar will be launching in the next year. The company’s battery electric I-Pace SUV will also be launching within the next year; production of it has already started, in fact.

I've got to imagine their big Q7/GLS competitor is in development, but they needed to get the smaller, volume model out first.
