Following a litany of complaints, German transmission manufacturer ZF has issued a recall on its 9HP nine-speed automatic transmission to resolve an issue which causes the unit to unintentionally shift into neutral.

ZF has indicated that the issue is caused by a crimp in the transmission wiring harness and can be addressed through a software update.

While no deaths have been attributed to the recall, at least 10 injuries related to the issue have been reported by the NHTSA.

Roughly 505,000 vehicles equipped with the transmissions in the United States are affected, all of which are from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

FCA is recalling 2014 and 2015 models of the Chrysler 200, Fiat 500X, Jeep Cherokee and Renegade and Ram ProMaster City.
