Citing a report that originally appeared in the Globe and Mail, The Truth About Cars has confirmed that the Genesis Coupe will be discontinued in the U.S. and Canada once production of the 2016 model ends.
Christine Henley, PR manager for Hyundai Motor America, verified the report and indicated that “a new, more sophisticated and luxurious coupe appropriate for the new Genesis brand is currently under development.”
With Hyundai spinning Genesis off as its own marque, it was inevitable that the brand and models would not maintain the same names. As part of the transition, the coupe’s sedan stablemate now becomes the Genesis G80.
A Genesis product roadmap recently surfaced detailing its plans beyond the introduction of the G80 midsize sedan and the G90 full-size sedan, formerly known as the Equus. The presentation included a compact G70 sedan, two crossovers and the launch of a coupe in 2020.
