GMC is readying a new variant of its Canyon midsize pickup. The truck brand recently confirmed plans to launch a GMC Canyon AT4, which will be an off-road version similar to that of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2.
During a recent media event, GMC offered a creative sneak peak of the Canyon AT4. While sampling the 2020 Sierra HD’s trailering camera system, the brand showed a camouflaged version of the Canyon AT4 inside one of the box trailers being towed by Sierra. The sides of the trailer stated the Canyon AT4 was coming to market in early 2020, meaning a full reveal shouldn’t be too far off.
Exactly what GMC will change on the AT4 is still unclear. On Sierra AT4 the brand offers up some modest off-road hardware, such as a two-inch lift kit and Rancho shock absorbers. That said, GMC can tap some of the hardware found on the Colorado ZR2 to make the Canyon AT4 even more of an off-roader than the Sierra AT4, it’s just a question of whether or not GMC will go that extreme with it.
Back in 2018 GMC promised an AT4 variant of every vehicle in the brand’s lineup. Once the Canyon AT4 launches, only a Terrain and Yukon variant will still lack the AT4 treatment. The latest AT4 to launch in the 2020 Acadia AT4.
