China’s quality regulator, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, announced today that General Motors Co. and it’s Chinese partner SAIC will recall 2.16 million vehicles to fix faulty crankcase valves.

The recall affects 834,000 Buick Excelle sedans, 1.15 million Chevrolet Cruzes, 159,000 Chevy Epicas and 18,000 Chevy Aveos.

According to the regulator, the crankcase valves are susceptible to corrosion, leading to possible long term engine damage.

SAIC General Motors Co. will begin recalling cars on August 15. Valve replacements will be made by the manufacturer free of charge.
