Along with crossovers, cheap compact cars are all the rage in China. To gain share in this market, Chevy is set to reintroduce the Cavalier to China.

Though much is not known at this point about the vehicle, it appears the vehicle is based on the new Buick Excelle GT. The vehicle will be produced by SAIC-GM for China, though it is possible that the vehicle will be offered in some select export markets.

Styling was clearly inspired by the Chinese-spec Malibu, which is the 8th generation. The 9th generation Malibu is known as the “Malibu XL” in China.

Power will come by a 1.5L I4.

Competitors to the all-new Cavalier include the Ford Escort, VW Bora, and VW Lavida.

The Cavalier will debut at the Beijing Auto Show within the next few days.
