The fifth-generation Cadillac Escalade is just around the corner, so naturally rumors of the new ‘Slade are starting to bubble up. The latest rumors suggest at least one powertrain option on the Escalade will be a pure electric one.
This new comes from Cadillac Society, who reports there will be a battery-electric variant of the fifth-generation Cadillac Escalade. Citing anonymous sources familiar with Cadillac’s product planning, the report says the electric Escalade will offer up to 400 miles of battery range. Assuming the speculative 400 mile range pans out, the Escalade would offer more range than just about any other battery-electric SUV, including the Tesla Model X.
While the next-generation Escalade is expected to drop for the 2021 model year, the battery-electric variant is not expected at launch. The report has not detailed a timeline, other than confirming it will be a later arrival for the fifth-generation model.
Instead of launching with electric, the next Escalade is rumored to utilize Cadillac’s Blackwing V-8 engine, which offers 550 horsepower in the Cadillac CT6-V. If this report pans out, it sounds as if the next Escalade will offer plenty of power from both worlds: gas and electric.
